Geothermal Energy for Commercial & Public Buildings

Friday, June 26, 2009 by Craig Zamary
The 2009 Ashden Award winner, Geothermal International, is one of the UK's leading installers of ground source heat pumps, specializing in large commercial and public sector buildings.

The company has installed nearly 800 systems with a total heating and cooling capacity of over 100 MW. The overall carbon savings from their installations to date is about 25,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Many urban developments use innovative Energy Piles where the pump's ground loop is embedded in the foundations, making installation easier.

In the video below, you can see how this geothermal energy innovation works and saves energy as well as helps companies going green.

I wonder if all LEED building and leed homes have geothermal energy? we should use this energy more, and get rid of the fossil fuels since the energy is right below our noses.
