Ten months ago, Barack Obama promised that as the president of the United States, he would spend $210 billion to create 5 million green jobs. Obama recently outlined his top priorities for the environment and energy policy and said he wants "to create millions of new green jobs, to free our nation from its dependence on oil and help preserve this planet for our children. In the end that's not only the responsibility of all Americans, it's our obligation as stewards of God's earth."
Mr. Obama has said in order to accomplish this, the development of alternative energy is key, and is inextricably linked to the future of the U.S. economy, national security and curbing global warming.
Well, so far so good. Barack Obama recently appointed 4 individuals to begin implementing his policies and act as the "Green Dream Team".
They include: Carol Browner as White House energy czar, Steven Chu a Nobel Laureate for physics as the head of the Energy Department, Lisa Jackson as the director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Ken Salazar, a Colorado Senator, who has opposed drilling in Alaska's National Wildlife Refuge, as his Interior Secretary.
This is a good start. 4 down, 4,999,996 to go to fulfill his promise of creating 5 million new green jobs. Some have said that Barack Obama, may have been inspired by the controversial Greenpeace video where they used JFK to deliver an address. It's a fake address, altered by a computer, but one that has a strong green message.
